Mamer Schlass in the colors of Rare Disease Day

As a sign of solidarity with the 30,000 or so people affected by rare diseases in Luxembourg, the Mamer Schlass was illuminated in the colors of Rare Disease Day as part of the “Global Chain of Lights” on World Rare Disease Day, February 28, 2026.

A disease is said to be rare when it affects less thanone person in 2,000. For 95% of these diseases, there is currently no effective treatment. More than ever, research is therefore essential to develop treatments and medicines for these relentless diseases.

The commune of Mamer supports Rare Disease Day and the association ALAN – Maladies Rares, which works in Luxembourg on behalf of sufferers and their families.

Schoolchildren learn to produce “Viz”

Schoolchildren learn to produce “Viz”

At the traditional “Apeldag”, around 70 children from five classes in cycle 2.2 at the fundamental schools in Mamer and Capellen were able to make their own apple juice. They also learned a lot of interesting things about this appetizing fruit.

The pressed apples all came from a natur&ëmwelt orchard near the school. A total of 500 kilos of apples were processed. The students were supervised by school staff and members of the local natur&ëmwelt section.

The children were very committed, sorting, cutting, crushing and pressing the apples with great dedication. As a thank-you, each pupil received a bottle of delicious apple juice.

Smart Café – A digital bridge between generations

Smart Café – A digital bridge between generations

At the Mamer Schlass, another edition of the Smart Café once again demonstrated how enriching dialogue between the generations can be.

Under the coordination of the non-profit organization GoldenMe Luxembourg, young volunteers from the Maison des Jeunes patiently and enthusiastically guided seniors through the use of their cell phones, tablets and laptops.

The seniors appreciated this invaluable help, and were impressed by the young people’s mastery of and confidence in digital tools. For the latter, it was also a great experience of sharing, rewarded by the recognition and gratitude of the participants.

The Smart Café is much more than a technology workshop: it’s a place for exchange and mutual respect between generations. Organized by the Commission for Family and Third Age, other events are already scheduled for the coming months.

The Family and Senior Citizens Commission organized a conference with experts from the Hëllef Doheem Foundation in the Mamer Schlass village hall. The theme was the Senior Plus service. This is a prevention and advice service for people over 65 who feel isolated or unsafe in their own homes. The commune of Mamer signed the Senior Plus agreement in 2016.

Foundation representatives presented Hëllef Doheem’s offerings to participants and answered questions. Among the topics covered were safety, loneliness, mobility, nutrition, social life, work in and around the home and health services. The audience was very interested and asked many questions.

Alderman Ed Buchette also came to the Mamer Schlass to listen to the specialists’ explanations.

Workshops on diversity and discrimination at Maison Citoyenne

Workshops on intercultural living together at the Maison Citoyenne attracted nearly a hundred Mamer residents.

Invited by the College of Aldermen and the Maison Citoyenne, they discussed diversity and discrimination, expressed their points of view, proposed solutions and shared what they appreciate about their commune.

The initiative, organized with MiFa and led by state experts, was part of the Communal Pact for Intercultural Living Together signed in 2024 by the College of Alderman.

Mayor Luc Feller and Alderman Roger Negri were delighted with the turnout. Mayor Luc Feller reminded everyone that Mamer is a multicultural commune, where diversity is a source of wealth, and where everyone should be able to feel at home and flourish.

Commune de Mamer’s young firefighters celebrate 50 years

The Amicale des pompiers held its traditional family party to thank the members of CIS Mamer and their families for their commitment.

This year, within this framework, was also celebrated the 50ᵉ anniversary of the youth section of the firefighters of the commune of Mamer. It was founded in 1975 in Mamer. In 1999, when the Holzem and Mamer fire departments merged, the youngsters were also grouped together. Since 2011, they have always been accompanied by their mascot (Flammi Flämmchen) and, in 2013, they received their own flag. In 50 years, over 200 children and teenagers have signed up, almost half of whom have gone on to active service. Over the years, more than 8,400 young people have taken part in over 1,600 activities.

The president of the Amicale, Marc Mergen, and the deputy head of the young firefighters, Monica Dos Santos, gave explanations about the section.

The mayor Luc Feller, accompanied by alderman Roger Negri and members of the local council, stressed the importance of the next generation of firefighters, praised the dynamism and commitment of the Mamer fire brigade, thanked all participants for their work and wished them every success for the future.

Marc Mergen and youth leader Maxime Mirto were honored by the national youth committee for their merits.

Over thirty amateur artists and private craftsmen took part in the Syndicat d’Initiatives et de Tourisme (SIT) Hobbymaart, held every two years in Brill Park.

President Claude Lang was delighted with the large turnout, especially on the first day under clear skies, which also included an open-air cinema session. The weather then put a damper on the event.

Mayor Luc Feller, Alderman Roger Negri and members of the town council hailed the event, which was integrated into the park’s natural setting, as a real addition to the town’s calendar.

The stalls offered a wide variety of crafts, syrups and liqueurs, bags and clothes, paintings and jewelry, attracting a large and curious public.
