The renaturation of rivers and streams improves water quality. It also improves habitats for plants and animals and promotes biodiversity.
In this context, part of the Mamer has also been redeveloped. Over a length of around 560 metres, between Holzem and Garnich, the stream, which lies in a Natura 2000 area, was deepened and widened in places. According to experts, renaturation also helps to reduce the risk of flooding. The municipality of Mamer commissioned the renaturation work, and the Ministry of the Environment provided financial support for the project.
Mayor Luc Feller, aldermen Roger Negri and Ed Buchette, and alderwoman Francine Closener visited the site with the project managers to find out more about the project. Explanations were provided by Frank Sowa, who is responsible for river protection at SICONA.
