Twenty singers, musicians, dancers – young and old – and a little actress and her dog took to the stage in Brill Park for the sixth edition of the talent contest of the Commission for Family and Third Age.
After lengthy preparation, they all summoned up their courage to perform in front of an audience and a panel of judges. Divided into three age categories, the candidates delivered quality performances, making the choice of three winners per category a difficult one.

Species-rich grasslands protect soil and water, contribute to climate and biodiversity, and provide high-quality fodder for sustainable agriculture.
A concrete example was presented by the Sicona syndicate at Bäerendall in Mamer, five years after the renaturation of a plot of land.
The presentation took place in the presence of representatives of the member municipalities, including Aldermen Roger Negri and Ed Buchette, as well as the Minister for the Environment, Climate and Biodiversity, Serge Wilmes. The project is in line with the national strategy for permanent grasslands and the national nature conservation plan.

Around 25 people took part in the citizen’s forum entitled “Produce your own electricity and manage it well”. The aim of the event was to raise awareness of climate issues and develop concrete solutions.
Alderman Roger Negri welcomed the participants. The greatest responsibility lies with households. This is why information and awareness-raising initiatives are essential.
After taking part in a short quiz on electricity consumption and the climate, and receiving explanations about the Climate Pact, participants were divided into groups to analyze different aspects of the subject and develop proposals for solutions. The workshops were led by members of the Mamer Climate Pact team, Norry Schneider from CELL, and Lars Linster, climate consultant at Schroeder & Associés. It’s now a tradition. Every two years, before the Whitsun vacations, the basic schools of Mamer and Capellen, in collaboration with the local council, organize a Fairtrade race for a good cause.
While the race took place two years ago in Brill Park, this year the pupils completed laps on the Kinneksbond campus. The day before, cycle 1 children in Capellen had already completed their laps. In all, some 870 children from cycles 1 to 4 took part in the sporting event.
The aim, however, was not to set the fastest time, but to complete as many laps around the campus as possible. For each loop completed, at least 2 euros were donated by the runner’s family or friends. Each student could decide for themselves how many laps they wished to complete. Donations collected in this way will be used to support small farmers in the South, helping to promote fair trade.
Mayor Luc Feller, Alderman Roger Negri and the President of the School Commission, Nadine Schmid, were on hand to watch the show and cheer on the runners, who also included Fairtrade Luxembourg President Jean-Louis Zeien.

The Family and Senior Citizens Commission organized a conference at the Mamer Schlass on the legal role of children in the event of parental separation.
Mee-Ran Borri, a lawyer based in Mamer and an expert in family law, inheritance law and children’s rights, shed light on the often complex issues involved in separation. What rights do children have when their parents separate? What obligations do parents have, whether married or not? These were just some of the questions Ms. Borri answered with clarity and humanity, emphasizing the best interests of the child as the cornerstone of any legal decision in this area.
The audience, which included Mayor Luc Feller, Alderwoman Francine Closener and members of the local council, gained a better understanding of the protections provided by the law and the importance of dialogue in delicate family situations.

On the Drëps site, the forestry school (“Bëschschoul”) was inaugurated.
The principle is simple: leave the classroom and immerse yourself in nature. For a few mornings each week, several upper-cycle classes, under the direction of Claude Greiveldinger, discover a nature-based pedagogy.
According to mayor Luc Feller – accompanied by aldermen Roger Negri, Ed Buchette and alderwoman Francine Closener at the inauguration – the Bëschschoul marks a new stage in the educational approach offered to the municipality’s pupils.
