A well-attended rose pruning course

Once again this year, the Commune de Mamer, in collaboration with Patrimoine Roses Luxembourg, organized a rose pruning course. Around 40 people took part.

After a theoretical introduction given by experts Pierre Lauwers, expert and gardener in charge of green spaces for the town of Le Roeulx (B), and Amandine Marinx, member of the jury of the Royal Concours International de Roses Nouvelles in Le Roeulx (B), participants moved on to the rose garden behind the Mamer Schlass for the practical part. Participants were very interested and asked a lot of questions.

At the end of the afternoon, a conference was again on the program, during which listeners were given lots of interesting information on rose diseases and pests.

The audience enjoyed a wonderful evening in the Holzem festival hall at the performance of “Illusiounen”, interpreted by Susy Lentz and Al Ginter. The theatrical and musical evening, organized by the Commission for Cultural Affairs, was well attended.

This sensitive satire on love, dreams and illusions, punctuated by songs by Josy Christen, blended humor and emotion. With their authentic, energetic performances, the artists won over the audience from start to finish. This successful evening will long be remembered.

Donations for the Téléthon and Cent Buttek

Donations for the Téléthon and Cent Buttek

For several years now, the Capellen school has been raising funds for a good cause during the Christmas period. Once again, the event was a resounding success. The Capellen school donated a cheque for 833 euros to Téléthon Luxembourg. And non-perishable foodstuffs and hygiene articles were donated to the Cent Buttek association.

The cheque and donations were received by Michel Kneip (Lions Country Telethon delegate) and Avelino Dinis Gomes (manager of Cent Buttek in Beggen). The president of the Capellen school committee, Maryse Baden, pointed out that this event has now become a tradition, and is always very well received.

Mayor Luc Feller, accompanied by aldermen Roger Negri and Ed Buchette, also recalled the event. He congratulated the children and teaching staff on their commitment, and stressed the importance of social involvement in our society.

Funds for the Telethon were raised at the Christmas market in Mamer and at the Saint-Nicolas market at the school, thanks to the “Sapin de l’Espoir”. The Telethon supports research into genetic and rare diseases. Products for the Cent Buttek were collected as part of the reverse Advent calendar. Instead of receiving a gift, students brought something each day to put in the donation basket. At Cent Butteker, people on low incomes can shop at greatly reduced prices.

Babbelcafé’s Christmas edition a success

The chalet in the courtyard of the Mamer Schlass was well attended during the Christmas edition of the Babbelcafé. The Commission Communale du Vivre-Ensemble Interculturel, which regularly organizes this event, had come up with an original idea. Not only were participants able to get to know each other in a pleasant Christmas atmosphere, over a drink and some appetizers, but they also had the opportunity to try out different board games. And it wasn’t just the children who were enthusiastic about the idea.

Different cultures and languages were no barrier. The mood was upbeat throughout the afternoon.

Members of the local council also visited the chalet to chat and play with the locals.

Babbelcafés are held regularly in the commune. Their aim is to bring citizens together and strengthen social cohesion.

Christmas Market ends on a high note

Christmas Market ends on a high note

Two beautiful Christmas market weekends in Mamer came to a close with Thomas Schwab’s “Christmas Moments” concert.
The associations, who were very busy for six days in their chalets offering good and beautiful things, were satisfied with the attendance.
Sharing a good time with loved ones is what makes the Christmas season so special. Despite the vagaries of the weather, the spirit of Christmas keeps hearts warm and spirits high.
Pastry workshop to kick off the festive season

Pastry workshop to kick off the festive season

In the run-up to the festive season, the Commission for Family and Third Age organized its Christmas baking workshop at the Maison des Associations in Holzem.

Under the guidance of Laurent Baudouin, teacher at the Hotel school, participants made mini Yule logs with buttercream. After preparing the dough and filling, they learned how to roll and decorate their pastries, guided by the professional’s advice.

In a convivial atmosphere, the workshop provided an opportunity to share culinary traditions and moments of exchange, launching the festive season with gourmet delight.

St. Nicholas market at Capellen school

St. Nicholas market at Capellen school

The St. Nicholas market at Capellen’s fundamental school was a hive of activity. The organizers had concocted a varied program for the event. For example, the most beautiful little Christmas tree was elected. Children could take part in craft workshops. Visitors could also do a good deed by helping to decorate the Telethon Christmas tree.

And of course, St. Nicholas and his companion, the bogeyman, didn’t miss the opportunity to spoil the schoolchildren. As a token of their thanks, the pupils gave the Holy Man a beautiful concert.

Alderman Ed Buchette also celebrated with the children and their parents. The atmosphere was excellent, and more than a few of them left immersed in the magic of Christmas.

Celestial visit to the Kinneksbond school campus

Celestial visit to the Kinneksbond school campus

In the run-up to December 6, Saint Nicolas and the Whipping Father made a stopover at Mamer’s pre-school and nursery school, following their visit to Capellen the day before.

The children, prepared with the help of their educational team, welcomed the visitors with crafts, songs and drawings. Mayor Luc Feller, alderman Ed Buchette, school board president Nadine Schmid and members of the SIT were also present.

True to tradition, Saint Nicholas consulted his ledger of children’s behavior, causing a few heartbeats – but in the end, no rods were handed out.

Domestic violence on the big screen at the Mamer Schlass

Domestic violence on the big screen at the Mamer Schlass

Eric Lamhène’s film “Hors d’Haleine”, screened at Château de Mamer during Orange Week, attracted a large audience, including several members of the local council. The film tells the story of Emma, who leaves behind her ordered life to take refuge in a shelter for women in distress.

After the screening, the Commission for the Equality of Opportunities and Maison Citoyenne organized a round table discussion on domestic violence. Interest was high, and many questions were asked. Experts Eric Lamhène (director of the film), Esperanza Martin González-Quevedo (actress in the film and victim of domestic violence), Julie Schonne (assistant at LOG-in) and Christopher Witry (Ministry for Gender Equality and Diversity), were able to pass on a wealth of information to the audience, raising awareness of the issue.

Pétanque Club Mamer: a donation for Télévie

Pétanque Club Mamer: a donation for Télévie

To mark its 10ᵉ anniversary, the Pétanque Club Mamer organized a major tournament in September on its field next to the CIPA in Mamer, involving 16 teams from the commune as well as a team from Leudelange and one from Bertrange.

The event raised around 2,100 euros. The club then rounded this amount up to 2,500 euros. All proceeds go to Télévie. Télévie coordinator Diane Wunsch therefore travelled to Mamer to receive the cheque. She warmly thanked the club’s management.

The commune was represented at the cheque presentation by Mayor Luc Feller, Aldermen Roger Negri and Ed Buchette, Alderwoman Francine Closener and members of the local council. In his speech, the mayor underlined the social role of clubs and praised the dynamism and solidarity of the commune’s associations.

Goody bags for all well-behaved children

Goody bags for all well-behaved children

The Kinneksbond Cultural Center was a hive of activity as children awaited St. Nicholas and the bogeyman. Arriving from the “heavenly country” by train at Mamer station, they were warmly welcomed. Due to unstable weather conditions, the procession was cancelled and everyone was taken by bus to the cultural center.

St. Nicholas and his companion were greeted by mayor Luc Feller, alderman Ed Buchette, members of the town council and representatives of the Syndicat d’initiative et du tourisme, organizers of the event, while the Gemeng Mamer brass band provided the musical welcome.

In the main hall, children waited with their parents. The large UGDA children’s choir sang traditional carols. From his golden throne, the “Kleeschen” handed out well-stocked bags, while the gloomy but calm Père Fouettard kept his rods in his sack.

Nice end-of-year party at CIPA in Mamer

Nice end-of-year party at CIPA in Mamer

Every year, the Commission for Family and Third Age organizes a Christmas party in the CIPA village hall in Mamer. Again this year, there was plenty of dancing and laughter. Of course, the traditional Polish dance through the hall was not to be missed. Many people took part. The atmosphere remained excellent throughout the afternoon. Jeannot Conter played on his keyboard to keep the party going.

The municipality was represented by Mayor Luc Feller, Alderman Ed Buchette, Alderwoman Francine Closener and members of the local council. Representatives of the Senioren Amicale Mameranus and Club Haus am Brill also made the trip to CIPA to celebrate with the seniors.

In his speech, Luc Feller emphasized the importance of the elderly in society. In Mamer, the different generations work very well together, contributing to a particularly dynamic community fabric. Luc Feller also gave an overview of Winter Moments and the projects that will benefit seniors too.

After a good dance, the seniors were served a delicious menu.

Saint Nicholas visits the Capellen school campus

Saint Nicholas visits the Capellen school campus

Saint Nicholas and the bogeyman paid a visit to the schoolchildren on the Capellen school campus, where excitement was running high among the pre-school and kindergarten children. For several days, they had been preparing songs, decorations and drawings for Saint Nicholas and the Houseker.

Accompanied by mayor Luc Feller, alderman Ed Buchette, Nadine Schmid, president of the school board, and members of the Tourist Board, Saint Nicolas and his faithful companion arrived all smiles.

As no complaints were received about the Capellen and Holzem children, they handed out bag after bag of treats. Even the Houseker, busy helping out, forgot about the yards left in his bag.

The Wëllebau is officially inaugurated

The Wëllebau is officially inaugurated

The community of Mamer has a new village hall. There were nothing but satisfied faces at the inauguration of the Wëllebau in Mamer. Mayor Luc Feller, aldermen Roger Negri and Ed Buchette, alderwoman Francine Closener and members of the local council represented the municipality at the inauguration.

In his speech, the mayor retraced the building’s history. Its walls had been the venue for a number of festivities and balls. It was also the rehearsal hall for the “Wëll”, as the musicians of the Harmonie Union Mamer, the predecessor of the HGM, were called. But first and foremost, it was a meeting place for local residents, right in the center of Mamer,” emphasized Luc Feller, adding that the reallocation was aimed precisely at preserving this role. That’s why it was decided to install a village hall and a brasserie in the Wëllebau. He wished the building’s operator every success. In addition, it was important that the design of the protected building should reflect its historic use. The people behind the project have succeeded in doing just that,” emphasized Luc Feller.

During the evening, guests were given a close-up view of the renovated premises. Three clarinettists from the Harmonie Gemeng Mamer provided musical accompaniment to the friendly reception.

The auditorium at the Kinneksbond Cultural Center was packed for the ceremony honoring deserving athletes. A total of 268 athletes were honored for their outstanding performances. Among them were 86 women and 143 young people.

Mayor Luc Feller, alderwoman Francine Closener and Tom Kerschenmeyer, Chairman of the Commission for Sports and Recreation, presented the gifts: two microfiber towels. Members of the local council had also made the trip to the cultural center. Marc Feltgen, member of the commission, introduced the sportsmen and women honored, listed their merits and conducted a few short interviews with some of them.

In his speech, the mayor praised Mamer’s dynamic community life and said he was impressed that some 2,500 residents were members of sports clubs. He also thanked the athletes’ entourage for their daily support. The President of the Commission for Sports and Recreation, Tom Kerschenmeyer, was also delighted to see so many people, especially young people, taking part in club sports. He emphasized that community life helps to promote social cohesion.

During the interval, gymnasts from the Rythmo-Cats club drew rapturous applause with their performance.

Minister Max Hahn visits Kleiderbörse non-profit organization

For many years, Kleiderbörse Asbl in Mamer has been offering second-hand clothing, toys and everyday items in good condition, which are either resold or redistributed through donations to people in need.

To gain a better understanding of the association’s work, Minister Max Hahn visited the Maison des Jeunes in Mamer, where the “Kleederstuff” is located. Accompanied by mayor Luc Feller, aldermen Roger Negri and Ed Buchette, and alderwoman Francine Closener, the government representative for Family, Solidarity, Intercultural Living and Hospitality received explanations on how the association supports people in difficulty.

In addition to the “Kleederstuff”, the Kleiderbörse organizes a large second-hand market every spring and autumn, well known beyond the municipal borders. Further information: www.kleiderboerse.lu

Students plant hedges

Students plant hedges

As part of the National Day of the Tree, Cycle 3 pupils from the fundamental schools of Mamer and Capellen planted hedges once again this year. The Bambësch in Mamer was a hive of activity. More than 120 pupils planted shrubs under the guidance of forest ranger Fabrice Reuland and his staff. In all, several hundred hedges were planted on the site.

Aldermen Roger Negri and Ed Buchette were on hand to ensure that everything went smoothly.

But the students didn’t just learn how to plant: the experts also gave them a wealth of information on nature conservation. After taking part in the hedge planting, the pupils were able to keep their strength up for the rest of the day with pastries and drinks provided by the local authority.
