In the weeks leading up to summer break, a previously undeveloped corner of the playground at the Campus Kinneksbond elementary school was transformed into a perennial bed that will become, starting next summer, a flower-filled oasis that promotes biodiversity.
This project, carried out in collaboration with the school, the municipality of Mamer, and the SICONA association, involved about 60 students from Cycle 2.1, who planted nearly 650 perennials after learning about the importance of insects to nature.
Mayor Luc Feller, along with Aldermen Roger Negri and Ed Buchette, also came to learn about the project and, together with the children, listened to the explanations provided by the SICONA experts.
Starting next school year, a flower meadow and about 60 insect hotels—built by Cycle 4 students—will complete this project.
