Meritorious sportsmen and women honoured

The large auditorium at the Kinneksbond Cultural Centre in Mamer was packed to the rafters for the sports awards ceremony. A total of 207 sportsmen and women from 18 different disciplines, including 148 young people, were honoured for their performances. 40 per cent were women.

Mayor Luc Feller, Alderman Roger Negri, Alderwoman Francine Closener and the Chairman of the Sports and Leisure Commission, Tom Kerschenmeyer, presented the athletes with their gifts. Several members of the municipal council were also present. Marc Feltgen, a member of the commission, listed the merits of the winners. During the break, an acrobat from the Saltimbanque circus school and the Duo No Nonsense from the Netherlands drew much applause with their performances.

In his speech, the mayor congratulated the athletes on their success. He gave an update on the sports infrastructure, which will be extended. Like the chairman of the committee, he stressed that dynamic associations would bring people together and thus promote social cohesion. That’s why it’s important to support clubs.
