The new school swimming pool at the Kinneksbond campus in Mamer was officially inaugurated in the presence of the Minister for Sport, Georges Mischo.
The long-awaited project is a major achievement for the municipality, as Mayor Luc Feller, accompanied by Aldermen Roger Negri and Ed Buchette, pointed out.
The modern infrastructure will enable all pupils in the municipality’s primary schools to learn to swim before the end of their primary education. It will also provide local sports clubs, including the Trispeed triathlon club, with a suitable environment in which to train.
From January 2025, the first swimming lessons will be held in the new facility. Later in the year, the pool will also be open to the public as part of a test phase.
The pool features a 25-metre main pool and a 15-metre training pool with a height-adjustable floor to facilitate learning and training. Three lifeguards are on hand at all times to ensure the safety of users.
During the construction of the building, which includes a basement sports hall for table tennis and an airtramp, particular attention was paid to an environmentally-friendly design that meets energy class A standards. Access to the building and entry to the water have been designed to be accessible to people with reduced mobility.
