From forgotten resistance fighters to rescue workers

As part of International Women’s Day, the Commune de Mamer, in collaboration with the Citizen’s House and the Museum of the Police, paid tribute to the Luxembourg women who risked their lives and suffered persecution and imprisonment during the Second World War, as well as those who today work in the national rescue services.

Mayor Luc Feller, flanked by Aldermen Roger Negri and Ed Buchette and Alderwoman Francine Closener, stressed the importance of honoring this unshakeable courage.

Historian Dr. Kathrin Mess, author of Hier kommst du nie mehr raus, recalled the heroism of these forgotten women of the Resistance.

A round table brought together representatives from the army, the police and the CGDIS, who shared their professional realities, testifying to the continuity of this spirit of service.

At the same time, Les Amis de l’Histoire de Mamer exhibited documents on the involvement of local women during the Nazi occupation.
