Brill Park in Mamer has been enriched by an innovative new project.
On the initiative of Greenpeace, a micro-forest was planted: 900 young native trees and shrubs were planted in a 300 square meter area.
Within three years, these plants should evolve to form a mini-forest, an ecosystem designed to promote biodiversity and operating without human intervention. Greenpeace launched a large-scale appeal for donations for this project, and over 200 people took part, around a quarter of them from the commune of Mamer.
Inspired by the model developed in the 1970s by Japan’s Akira Miyawaki, micro-forests are designed to green small areas in urban environments.
A concept which, according to Mayor Luc Feller, accompanied by Aldermen Roger Negri and Ed Buchette, and Alderman Francine Closener, could well be replicated elsewhere in the commune.
