Species-rich grasslands protect soil and water, contribute to climate and biodiversity, and provide high-quality fodder for sustainable agriculture.
A concrete example was presented by the Sicona syndicate at Bäerendall in Mamer, five years after the renaturation of a plot of land.
The presentation took place in the presence of representatives of the member municipalities, including Aldermen Roger Negri and Ed Buchette, as well as the Minister for the Environment, Climate and Biodiversity, Serge Wilmes. The project is in line with the national strategy for permanent grasslands and the national nature conservation plan.
Over the past 20 years, Sicona has restored more than 300 hectares of grassland. The Mamer plot is now farmed without pesticides or fertilizers by a local farmer, as part of a nature protection contract.
A clear example of cooperation between agriculture and nature conservation, stressed the Minister and Sicona.
