In the Route de Dippach, behind the CFL “Lycée de Mamer” dock, the new cogeneration plant of the commune of Mamer, in operation since last December, was officially inaugurated. Construction work on this innovative project, operated by LuxEnergie, took 27 months.
Mayor Luc Feller, accompanied by Aldermen Roger Negri and Ed Buchette, was pleased to welcome Lex Delles, Minister of the Economy and Energy, and Marie-Pierre Jouglain, representative of the European Commission in Brussels.
In addition to the municipal buildings supplied by a district heating network since 2000, the new facility will alsosupply heat to existing and future housing estates in the surrounding area, as well as any new public infrastructures.
Today’s heat production, based mainly on pellets, reduces CO2 emissions by 1,600 tonnes a year compared with the old plant, which was no longer profitable after 2022. Eventually, this reduction will even reach 2,200 tonnes.
On the roofs of the building, which also houses the new forestry depot, 230 additional solar panels have been installed, reducing CO2 emissions by a further 16 tonnes a year.
