Since 2004, the Asian hornet has been spreading steadily across Europe and, as a predator of honeybees and other pollinators, represents a threat to local biodiversity.
Against this backdrop, the Ministry of the Environment, Climate and Biodiversity launched an emergency plan in 2026 to combat the proliferation of this invasive alien species in Luxembourg.
To complement this initiative, the commune of Mamer is introducing a new financial aid scheme to support residents faced with the presence of nests on their property, in order to encourage their removal and limit the risks to the population and the environment.
In practical terms, this municipal aid is in addition to the financial support provided by the French government. It corresponds to 50% of the amount already allocated by the State, with a ceiling set at 150 euros per nest.
It should be noted, however, that the combined total of state and local grants may under no circumstances exceed the actual cost of the project.
To qualify for this subsidy, certain conditions must be met.
- submit the application within one year of the State’s decision
- enclose state subsidy decision
- provide an invoice showing the address of the nest (located in Mamer)
