The use of metal detectors or any similar equipment by private individuals is strictly regulated in Luxembourg. In accordance with the Law of February 25, 2022, on cultural heritage, such use is subject to authorization from the Ministry of Culture.
As part of a national awareness campaign, the National Institute for Archaeological Research (INRA) reminds the public that unauthorized detection can damage archaeological heritage and pose significant risks, particularly if ammunition or other remnants of war are discovered.
Violations of the law may be punishable by fines ranging from 500 to 1,000,000 euros.
