Family trip to the Musée de l’Ardoise

The Commission for Family and Third Age organised a family excursion to the Musée de l’Ardoise in Martelange.

The programme included a tour of the mines 42 metres underground and the surrounding area.

Visitors were able to get an idea of how slate was extracted and the difficult working conditions of days gone by. To reach the Johanna mine, visitors had to be in good physical condition to climb the 370 steps. During a workshop, participants were able to cut out and then engrave their own slate, which was particularly appreciated by the children.

Lunch was served in a restaurant in Martelange, where there was plenty to talk about after all the impressions made in and around the old quarry.
