The auditorium at the Kinneksbond Cultural Center was packed for the ceremony honoring deserving athletes. A total of 268 athletes were honored for their outstanding performances. Among them were 86 women and 143 young people.
Mayor Luc Feller, alderwoman Francine Closener and Tom Kerschenmeyer, Chairman of the Commission for Sports and Recreation, presented the gifts: two microfiber towels. Members of the local council had also made the trip to the cultural center. Marc Feltgen, member of the commission, introduced the sportsmen and women honored, listed their merits and conducted a few short interviews with some of them.
In his speech, the mayor praised Mamer’s dynamic community life and said he was impressed that some 2,500 residents were members of sports clubs. He also thanked the athletes’ entourage for their daily support. The President of the Commission for Sports and Recreation, Tom Kerschenmeyer, was also delighted to see so many people, especially young people, taking part in club sports. He emphasized that community life helps to promote social cohesion.
During the interval, gymnasts from the Rythmo-Cats club drew rapturous applause with their performance.
