It’s now a tradition. Every two years, before the Whitsun vacations, the basic schools of Mamer and Capellen, in collaboration with the local council, organize a Fairtrade race for a good cause. <\/span><\/p>\n While the race took place two years ago in Brill Park, this year the pupils completed laps on the Kinneksbond campus. The day before, cycle 1 children in Capellen had already completed their laps. In all, some 870 children from cycles 1 to 4 took part in the sporting event. <\/span><\/p>\n The aim, however, was not to set the fastest time, but to complete as many laps around the campus as possible. For each loop completed, at least 2 euros were donated by the runner’s family or friends. Each student could decide for themselves how many laps they wished to complete. Donations collected in this way will be used to support small farmers in the South, helping to promote fair trade. <\/span><\/p>\n Mayor Luc Feller, Alderman Roger Negri and the President of the School Commission, Nadine Schmid, were on hand to watch the show and cheer on the runners, who also included Fairtrade Luxembourg President Jean-Louis Zeien.<\/span><\/p>\n <\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":" It’s now a tradition.
