Some forty women elected to aldermanic and communal councils from all over the country gathered in the Mamer Schlass village hall for an afterwork event. The event was organized by the Conseil National des Femmes, with the support of the commune of Mamer and its Maison Citoyenne. <\/span><\/p>\n The evening unfolded in a convivial atmosphere, punctuated by plenty of discussion and laughter. During the event, Joelle Letsch of the CNFL shed light on the evolution of women in sport. <\/span><\/p>\n Mayor Luc Feller, accompanied by alderman Ed Buchette, alderwoman Francine Closener and members of the municipal council, retraced the history of women’s suffrage and the role of women in politics. He deplored their persistent under-representation, while pointing out that in Mamer the situation was more encouraging, with eight out of 15 women elected. He noted that more needed to be done to raise awareness of gender equality.
