As part of International Women’s Sports Day, the Commission for Sport and Leisure organised a round table discussion at the Mamer Schlass.<\/p>\n

At the event, a number of sportswomen shared their experiences and successes, as well as the obstacles they face. All were unanimous: there are still glaring inequalities in the world of sport. Whether in terms of recognition of their achievements, public visibility or financial support, sportswomen are still less well regarded than their male counterparts. <\/p>\n

Betty No\u00ebl, captain of the FC Mamer women’s team, Katrin Kohl, Paralympic cycling athlete, Shefi Xhaferaj, ultra-trail runner, and Alexandra Feltgen, parkour specialist, illustrated these remarks with concrete examples from their daily lives, at the microphone of Jo\u00eblle Kirsch. Although progress has been made, the road to real equality between men’s and women’s sport is still a long one, they concluded. <\/p>\n

Mayor Luc Feller, accompanied by Alderman Ed Buchette, Alderwoman Francine Closener and other members of the local council, stressed in his welcome speech that, for an inclusive society, it is essential to continue working towards equality, not only between the sexes, but also in the recognition of performance.<\/p>\n
