SUMMARY:In My Body
DESCRIPTION:\nIn *In My Body*, street dance takes center stage: here, dancers measure themselves against the gaze of others as much as against the passage of time.\n“The bravest thing a dancer can do is grow old. ” A leading figure in Canadian hip-hop, Crazy Smooth takes this phrase and a personal injury—a failing knee—as his starting point to confront a nagging question that battle culture teaches us to ignore: What is a b-boy who can no longer do a backflip? Set to the finely crafted beats of DJ Shash’U and the spoken word of Alejandro Rodriguez, nine performers—from the elder statesman born in 1965 to the younger generation—put breaking, popping, and house to the test of time. Battles, meditative solos, and group routines echo one another, paying a vibrant tribute to the pioneers of urban dance while reviving the memory of an entire community. \n
